Model T Bicycle Rentals is pleased to celebrate its fourth year of operations at Headwaters Park in Downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2008, Model T will makes its debut as an unofficial Three Rivers Festival event, where it will premiere its brand new Cannonball Run riding trail.
Model T is part of a small company founded in 2002 by Dave and Gina Burgess. This small company is called Recreational Rentals, Inc. and was developed to bring nostalgic outdoor recreational opportunities to Downtown Fort Wayne. Although the initial phases of development began in 2002, Model T had to overcome many obstacles before opening its doors and renting equipment to the public in 2005.
In 2005, operations began in Headwaters Park but after 58 days, the doors were closed to a series of thefts. Later that same year, Model T was named one of 10 Self-Made In America entrepreneurs who overcame great challenges as judged by the History Channel and INC. Magazine.
In 2006, Model T re-opened in Headwaters and was almost immediately struck by adversity. In an attempt to overcome security problems from the previous year, Model T utilized several different types of alarms to thwart would-be thieves. Some of these alarms were going off randomly and causing problems within the Headwaters Park complex. One day, Model T staff were confronted by a park employee who threatened to have Model T shut down if the alarms were not removed. Model T customers witnessed the incident and contacted local media. It was later realized that this park employee was just having a bad day and park officials confirmed Model T could not be ejected from the park without cause.
In 2007, Model T saw its sales continue to climb for the third straight year and was pleased to be sponsored by local radio station, 101.7.
What will 2008 hold for Model T? Only you will help us find out.
